An Air India flight headed to New Delhi from Guwahati made an emergency landing at Jaipur Airport on late Sunday night due to heavy fog in the national capital. During landing the back tyre of the plane got burst but the alert pilot managed to land the plane safely in the middle of the runway. According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) no flight operations will take place till the plane is moved out from the runway.
According to sources two International and about 7-8 domestic flights are expected to be affected. Airport sources said they will clear the runway by Monday morning.
“All passengers are safe and we are checking the fault. We are unable to say anything about the operations of flights on Monday till the plane is removed,” Suresh N Borkar, director, Jaipur Airport.
Air India flight AI 890 had taken off with 173 passengers from Imphal via Guwahati and was on its way to New Delhi. On information of dense fog at New Delhi, the flight was diverted to Jaipur. The pilot was trying to land the plane at 9.45 pm, but during the course of final landing he found that the back tyre of the plane had burst. He tried to handle the plane and landed it safely in the middle of the runway.
During this landing a wing of the plane too got damaged. Passengers were shocked after the incident. Station manager of Air India Anil Warman told dna, “All the passengers were alighted safely from the plane. We have sent them by special buses to New Delhi.”
The plane was still on the runway, till late Sunday night and officials have adjourned all flight operations till it is removed.
