NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday invited Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief Yasin Malik for talks on Kashmir here on February 17.

Malik said he has called a meeting of his group's working committee and the advisory council on February 15 to discuss the invitation.

The JKLF chief said he would discuss the invitation with his units in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the United Kingdom before taking a decision on his participation in the talks.

The invitation, part of the Centre's continued endeavour to restore normalcy in Kashmir, follows a similar exercise last month when the prime minister held a meeting with the moderate faction of the Hurriyat and the People’s Conference led by Sajjad Lone.

Prior to the announcement, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister   Ghulam Nabi Azad met the prime minister and is understood to have apprised him of the political and security situation in the state.

The prime minister had indicated recently that he was ready to meet leaders of all shades who had remained outside the electoral process but were willing to give up violence.

However, Hurriyat leaders expressed anger, saying they had been sidelined. The Hurriyat leaders were told that they would have to wait for their turn.
