In the wake of the FICN scam, the Ahmedabad Rural police have rooted out illegal tenants and owners of property in almost all parts of rural Ahmedabad, especially near the city limits. The Ahmedabad Rural Police have registered over 100 cases till Wednesday.
The men arrested in the FICN racket lived in Manipur, near Sanand, and this prompted the police to carry out raids to ferret out illegal tenants.
District Superintendent of Police, Sandip Singh told DNA that three teams of Special Operations Group (SOG) have been formed to identify and register cases against the malefactors who have been violating the collector's circular of not informing the police about their tenants.
"According to the circular, the house owner has to provide the legal documents of the people living as tenants in their area," a SOG police official told DNA. The rural police had started the operations in Fatehwadi, Ularia, Manipur, Kelav, Aslali and Sarkhej and have registered over 100 cases of violating the collector's circular.
Four cases of accommodating illegal tenants have been registered in Manipur, the village in the Sanand taluka, where the accused arrested for floating the counterfeit currency were living.
The police registered maximum cases from Fatehwadi area of rural Ahmedabad. A police source said that the operation will continue for a few more days and they will ensure that no illegal tenants remain in the area.
