NEW DELHI: The interrogation of driver Vijay Pal Chaudhary, who has confessed to the murder of Isabelle Dessoy, secretary to Belgium's ambassador in New Delhi, has revealed that he shared a personal relationship with his employer.

Dessoy was stabbed 22 times at her Vasant Vihar residence on Saturday night. Chaudhary turned himself in on Sunday night.

Chaudhary began working with Dessoy two years ago. The woman became fond of him and treated him like family, DCP (southwest) RS Yadav said. The two often went out together. Chaudhary lives in Kotla Mubarakpur, south Delhi, with wife Shashi and sons Ankit and Akshay. But he often stayed back with Dessoy and did not return home for three or four days, police said.

On Saturday, the duo went to a five-star hotel for a swim and had dinner in Greater Kailash. On the way back, an argument erupted and Dessoy fired Chaudhary. He followed her home, stabbed her with the kitchen knife, and fled.

The badly injured Dessoy called her 14-year-old son, who was out with friends, and told him about the incident. He rushed home and took her to hospital with other embassy staff. But she died on the way.

Chaudhary was remanded in a week of judicial custody.
