Leaders of various political outfits cut across party lines on Wednesday condemned Shiv Sena MPs for allegedly abusing and forcing a Muslim catering supervisor at the Maharashtra Sadan to break his Ramzan fast and eat a chapatti.

"The MPs should tender a public apology, there is no place for this kind of majoritarianism," said Congress leader Manish Tewari.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon said an investigation must take place in the case and strict action should be taken against people involved.

"Shiv Sena isn't a responsible party and it has always been a group of anti-social people," added NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar.

Terming the incident as highly condemnable, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal said he knows the government would not take any action against this, "but it must".

CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury demanded that Parliament should clearly state that such acts won't be tolerated.

The Lok Sabha also witnessed an uproar over the issue.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said she will allow a discussion on the issue during Zero Hour.

In a highly insensitive act, 11 Shiv Sena MPs allegedly forced a Muslim catering supervisor to break his Ramzan fast at Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi last week.

The MPs were apparently angry over not being served Maharashtrian food. The Maharashtra Sadan has apologised to the employee even as the Shiv Sena has denied the incident.

Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut, who was allegedly among the leaders present during the incident, has denied the allegation. "These allegations are totally baseless," he said.

"All the members of Shiv Sena respects all the religions," he added.
