Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee today denied reports that Indian currency notes were being printed outside the country.

"The reports about printing of currency notes in Germany are not true," Mukherjee said while replying to a question during a function in Nagpur today.

Indeed, India was printing currency notes of a foreign country, he said without disclosing its name.

"But we are importing necessary ink and paper," Mukherjee said, adding the government was in the process of setting up a manufacturing unit for currency notes' paper at Mysore.

Printing machines have been imported from Germany, he added.
