President Pratibha Patil arrived at the picturesque Lakshadweep Islands from Mangalore on a three-day visit.
She was received at Agatti airport by Lakshadweep administrator JK Dadoo and members of the district and village panchayat.
The president will be attending two functions during her stay in the islands.
She will inaugurate the Rs15 crore Statewide Area Network (SWAN) project, established under the National e-governance plan at Kavratti.
The commissioning of the SWAN project will provide high bandwith connectivity linking 420 government offices spread over 10 inhabited islands in Lakshadweep.
Patil will also inaugurate an intensive care unit at the Indira Gandhi hospital here.
In the evening, the president, and other family members would leave for Bangaram islands for Christmas celebrations.
Folk dances and Kalaripayattu, Kerala's martial art form, would be staged for the guests.
On December 27, president will leave for Kochi.
