President Pratibha Patil to inaugurate Women Lawyers national conference

President Pratibha Patil will inaugurate the National conference of the All India Federation of Women Lawyers.

President Pratibha Patil will inaugurate the National conference of the All India Federation of Women Lawyers, scheduled to be held here on December 28 and 29.

Over 1000 delegates including some from Malaysia,Singapore, Italy and Sydney are expected to attend the conference, VP Seemandini, president, All India Federation of Women Lawyers, told reporters  here.
  
She said the first 'Sthree Vakil Puraskar', to honour outstanding women lawyers, will be presented to Justice M Fathima Beevi, former Supreme court judge and the first woman judge of the apex court, by chief justice of India justice KG Balakrishnan, at the inaugural function.
 
The Puraskar will also be presented to Saraswati Devi,senior Advocate, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who is the former president of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), in the presence of Stella Ogbuma,President FIDA, she said.
 
Kerala governor RS Gavai, chief minister VS Achuthanandan, Union law minister M Veerappa Moily and chief justice of Kerala SR Bannurmath, would participate.

The inauguration and award presentation ceremoney will be followed by a seminar on topics including 'Cyber Crimes Relating to Women and Children' and 'Gender Justice with special reference to the Protection of women Against Sexual Harassment at work place bill 2007', Seemandini said.
   
Sumathi Dandapani, president, Kerala Federation of Women Lawyers, said the largest number of delegates for the conference will be from Kerala, about 500, followed by Tamil Nadu, which will be sending around 200 delegates.
   
The valedictory function will be chaired by Justice KK Usha, former Chief Justice of Kerala, who is the chairperson of the National Conference.

Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice K S Radhakrishnan, Supreme court, Stella Ogbuma from Nigeria, President FIDA, Girija Vyas, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, M Vijayakumar, Kerala law minister, C P Sudhakara Prasad, Advocate General of Kerala, are among the list of speakers, she said.
