NEW DELHI: A Delhi special court on Thursday issued production warrant against a key aide of Abdul Karim Telgi in a multi-crore fake stamp paper case after the CBI failed to produce him before it.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sameer Vajpayee issued the warrant, seeking presence on September 29, against Ashfaq Mulla, who is presently lodged in Chanchal Guda prison at Hyderabad in connection with several fake stamp paper cases.
Mulla, who, as per the CBI, had played a key role in establishing and running the fake stamp paper racket of Telgi in the national capital, was to appear before the court which is recording the statements of witnesses.
But the prison authority at Hyderabad and the CBI could not produce him forcing the court issue production warrant.
As per the CBI, Ananad G Thorat, native of Belgaum in Karnataka and Manager of Telgi's firm M/s Prime Services, alongwith Mulla had supplied fake stamp papers worth several crores in Delhi from their Devika Tower office at Nehru Place.
Earlier, the court had enlarged Thorat on bail on furnishing two sureties of Rs 50,000 each and a personal bond of Rs one lakh.
Thorat was arrested on December three, 2000. The agency had alleged that it has credible evidence that the accused had transacted stamp papers of the value of Rs 70 lakh.
