Promote Hindi words in science and technology sector: Hamid Ansari

Speaking on the occasion of 'Hindi Day', he said scientists should be encouraged to contribute articles in the national language.

There is an urgent need to promote Hindi words in science and technology sector by developing related softwares, vice-president M Hamid Ansari said today.

Speaking on the occasion of 'Hindi Day', he said scientists should be encouraged to contribute articles in the national language.

"There is an imminent need to develop and promote Hindi words in science and technology. Lot is being done already but more has to be done systematically in this direction," he said at a function organised by the home ministry to mark the Day today.

After giving away Indira Gandhi Raj Bhasha Awards and Official Languages Awards at the function, he also stressed on the need for developing softwares to ensure balance between Hindi language and science and technology sector.

The vice-president noted that a large number of foreign students were learning and making positive contribution in Hindi language thus strengthening its space at the global platform.

Home minister P Chidambaram too echoed similar sentiments
and suggested that there is a need to ensure usage of Hindi
language in a simple and understandable forms so that it reaches to the masses by taking advantage of the rapid development taking place in the IT sector.

Amid loud applause from the audience as he spoke his inaugural address in Hindi language, Chidambaram also stressed on the need to develop the websites of all the government departments in Hindi.

Terming Hindi as a symbol of nationalism, minister of state for home Ajay Maken said, "Its usage represents unity in diversity of the country and I feel that we can multiply our productivity in all sector when instead of English, we are able to use computers in Hindi and other vernacular languages."

Among those who were conferred Indira Gandhi National Language Awards include railways, food and public distribution
department and labour ministry, besides Faridabad-based NHPC
and THDC in Rishikesh.
