In the latest of controversial statements, BJP lawmaker from Uttar Pradesh Surendra Singh, recently said that ‘prostitutes are better than government officials.’
"Officials se accha charitra vaishyaon ka hota hai, woh paisa lekar kam se kam apna kaam toh karti hain aur stage pe naachti hain. Par yeh officials toh paisa lekar bhi aapka kaam karenge ki nahi, iski koi guarantee hi nahi hai (Prostitutes are better than government officials; at least they take money and do their work and also dance on the stage. But these officials, even after taking money, don't do their work. There is no guarantee that the work will be done)," Singh said at a public meeting on Tuesday.
Singh is known to make outrageous statements and was even critical of the Yogi Adityanath government after it lost the recent bypolls in Kairana and Noorpur.
Controversial statements by BJP lawmakers had prompted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reprimand his party men last month saying: "We make mistakes and give 'masala' to the media... as if we are great social scientists and experts to analyse issues..." PM Modi had warned lawmakers and said not to "talk out of turn...it hurts the party image."
Singh had earlier asked his supporters to throw a "ghoosa" (punch) at officials who ask for "ghoos" (bribes), one of several controversial remarks made by him.
Earlier this month, Mr Singh had blamed parents and mobile phones for the spurt in rapes and had gone on record saying: "No one can rape a mother of three children."
Singh had earlier West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "Surpanakha", the sister of demon king Ravana.
Accusing Banerjee of inaction during violence in West Bengal, Surendra Singh, the BJP MLA from Bairia, on Tuesday said the situation is similar to that of Jammu and Kashmir where Hindus had to migrate due to fear of militants.
“Mamata Banerjee is playing the role of Surpanakha. People are getting killed on streets and she being the Chief Minister is not doing anything about it, such leaders are not good. Hindus are not safe in Bengal. If nothing is done about it, Bengal will face situation like that in Jammu and Kashmir. Hindus will be ousted from Bengal just like it happened in Jammu and Kashmir,” Singh told reporters in Ballia.
