The raid was conducted after complaints of bogus voting.

Welingkar Institute at Matunga was raided by Economic Offences wing of Pune Police in connection with bogus voting complaints during the election to the governing council of the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali. The director of the institute, Dr Uday Salunkhe, has been summoned by the EO wing for further inquiry.

The election for the governing council was held on March 31 and there were complaints of bogus voting after which the police seized bogus ballot papers along with Aadhaar cards for which police had arrested Abhay Dadhe. Dadhe is former president of the governing council of the Shikshan Prasarak Mandali.

The body has over 40 educational institutions in Pune, Solapur, Mumbai and other parts of the state. Dna had published series of news stories exposing financial irregularities in the body.

After investigation was handed over to Economic Offences wing, the investigating officer Rajesh Puranik told that laptop along with hard disk and various files have been seized from Welingkar institute during the raids. Salunkhe would be summoned to Pune for further inquiry.
