Punjab govt to encourage sting ops to expose female foeticide

State health minister Satpal Gosian said that in order to eradicate the social evil from Punjab, it was imperative to seek the cooperation of all, including the journalists.

Concerned over the adverse sex ratio in Punjab, state health minister Satpal Gosian today announced a policy to give award to anyone who helps expose the case of female foeticide through sting operation.

Gosian said that in order to eradicate the social evil from Punjab, it was imperative to seek the cooperation of all, including the journalists.

He said the health department had initiated a special scheme "Save Girl Child" under which anyone exposing female foeticide would be awarded Rs50,000.

He said a unique provision has also been made to reward Panchayats whose sex ratio shows a significant increase.
