Result of elections has no connection with purge which is a regular process in the communist parties the world over, senior CPI-M leader Nirupam Sen said here today.

"Purge is always required in the communist parties and it has no connection with win or loss in any election," Sen, also the West Bengal industry minister, said after the first day's session of the two-day CPI(M) State Committee meeting.

All communist parties followed the process through discussion within the party to rectify shortcomings, Sen told reporters.

Asked how this is possible for a party in power, Sen said, "This is more essential for a party in power so that craving for power does not arise and it remains unaffected by corruption. For this we need to work hard continuously and this is most essential at the present situation."
