Prime minister Manmohan Singh has ended speculations and appointed PV Kumar as chairman of National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), country’s top intelligence and surveillance agency.

Kumar has been appointed the chairman for a period of two years in place of KVSS Prasada Rao, who had retired in October. He will directly report to the prime minister.

While the PM-appointed heads in three major intelligence, security and investigation agencies last year, there was considerable delay in picking the right person for the NTRO.
