RAE BARELI: Launching a scathing attack on the opposition, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said their true colours have come out after her resignation.
Sonia was hours behind schedule but the crowd of over 50,000 erupted in cheers as the Congress president, dressed in her favourite off white sari, reached the Government Intermediate College grounds here around 3 pm, taking four-and-a-half hours to travel the 84 km route from the state capital Lucknow to her constituency.
“Perhaps you must have noticed that everyone's language has changed after my resignation,” Sonia, who resigned from Lok Sabha, said.
Blaming the opposition for her resignation, Gandhi made it clear she would fight back.
And, to further demonstrate her resolve, she even went to the extent of swinging a sword handed over to her.
Apparently targeting parties like Samajwadi Party along with the BJP, Sonia quipped that her detractors had suddenly become quite and started finding out ways and means of saving themselves. “I am not going to say much, but you understand what is happening,” she said in a tongue-in-cheek remark at those who had created uproar in Parliament accusing her of using Parliament and Government to save herself from certain disqualification.
