Cong chief likens RSS to Islamist group Muslim Brotherhood at UK event

The BJP lashed out again at Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday, branding him as a "contract killer of an idea called India" for comparing "RSS and BJP with the Muslim Brotherhood".

Speaking in London, Rahul Gandhi, without taking any name, attacked the RSS and the BJP when he said that India today is dealing with an idea that exists in the Arab world as the Muslim Brotherhood.

"And the idea is that one ideology should run through every single institution. One idea should crush all other ideas," said Rahul.

"You can see India's institutions come down one by one and realisation that we are fighting now something that they are trying to destroy, the modern ideology," Gandhi said.

Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi for being an "immature person who has no understanding of India, no leadership qualities", BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said, "Today what you have done is unforgivable. You compared BJP and RSS with Muslim Brotherhood... India is asking you the question: Is it a terrorist government that is ruling India?"

Patra denounced the Congress president as one who has no facet other than to hate PM Modi, the BJP and the RSS and asked him to apologise immediately for his remarks.

Reminding Rahul Gandhi of Jawaharlal Nehru who invited RSS to take part in Republic Day parade, Patra asked, "Was Pandit Nehru wrong in praising the RSS for the work it had done during the China war?"

Asking Rahul Gandhi to do some homework before speaking in front of representatives of several countries, Patra said, "You should know what is Muslim Brotherhood. It is a declared terrorist organisation in a number of countries and you are comparing it with BJP and RSS. You are saying that this government is attacking institutions like a terrorist organisation and gaining control over them."

In a separate briefing, BJP spokesperson, Sudhanshu Trivedi and Sardar RP Singh denounced Rahul Gandhi for comparing Congress' thinking with that of Guru Nanak.

"The biggest massacre after Nadir Shah took place during Congress regime in 1984. The Congress can never wash away that sin," said RP Singh.

ON GURU NANAK

  • Rahul Gandhi also came under attack for invoking Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh guru.

  • BJP said his party is identified with anti-Sikh riots in 1984 and he should apologise for the “heinous crime”.
