While the Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is touring Gujarat again, the BJP gave him a big blow in his home turf in Amethi on Monday when one of his trusted lieutenant and close confidante, Jung Bahadur Singh switched loyalty to join the saffron party on the eve of BJP President Amit Shah’s visit to Congress bastion.
Jung Bahadur Singh had resigned as Congress General Secretary only three days ago soon after Rahul Gandhi's visit to his parliamentary constituency. About half a dozen pradhans, several panchayat members and Congress workers also took the membership of the BJP along with the rebel Congress leader.
The Union Minister and party Lok Sabha candidate in 2014 from Amethi, Smriti Irani visited Singh’s residence and congratulated him. “His own trusted leaders are deserting Rahul Gandhi in his parliamentary constituency. This shows that party men are not happy with his style of development and Congress policies,” pointed the Union Minister.
“When Rahul could not develop his own constituency then what will he do for the country could be anyone’s guess,” said Irani. In reply to Rahul’s allegation that BJP was inaugurating projects launched by him, the Unon minister said that “unlike Rahul and UPA, credit should go to the BJP that it completes project well in time for the welfare of the people.”
A former minister in Samajwadi Party government, Singh alleged too that Rahul did nothing for the people of Amethi despite UPA government ruling the country for a decade. “Look at the roads with big potholes. Many factories were closed and no efforts were made them to restart. Youth are migrating to other places in search of jobs. All development projects under the MPLAD funds were stalled as Rahul had no time to visit his own parliamentary constituency,” charged Singh.
Meanwhile, massive arrangements have been made by the BJP to make party Ptresident Amit Shah’s rally a big success at Gauriganj in Congress stronghold. The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several of his Cabinet colleagues, BJP State President Mahendra Nath Singh will participate in the rally and launch over half a dozen development projects and schemes in Amethi to corner the Congress scion in his own home turf.
