The India Meteorological Department said the rains had been caused by Cyclone Phet which has weakened and is now over Rajasthan.

Four people died in Kutch district in separate incidents of electrocution and lightning during the heavy rains that lashed the coastal areas and some other parts of Gujarat late on Sunday night.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the rains had been caused by Cyclone Phet which has weakened and is now over Rajasthan.

In Ahmedabad, a 10-year-old boy, Vishu Dantani, fell into a pit filled with rainwater and drowned, late on Monday night.

The rains brought down temperatures across the state, giving people much-needed relief from the summer heat.

Several districts of Gujarat including Kutch, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Ahmedabad, experienced moderate to heavy overnight rain.

Some parts of South Gujarat, including Surat city, also had rain in the last 24 hours. Sporadic rains were also recorded in Vadodara and some north Gujarat districts.

The weather department has predicted heavy to moderate rain during the next 24 hours in Saurashtra, Kutch, Ahmedabad and some other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, officials said Porbandar district administration had rescued five crew members of a ship which had got stuck at the coast because of the wind and rain.
