Rain lashed Surat and parts of South Gujarat on Sunday bringing some relief from the soaring heat.
The sky remained cloudy till late in the evening till it rained. The downpour lasted for more than an hour and rainfall of an inch was recorded in the city.
There was no waterlogging reported from any part of the city.
"The downpour was refreshing and a much-awaited one. The atmosphere had been humid for long. Hope it rains and the mercury level comes down," Rajvi Shah, a resident of Adajan, said.
Other talukas of Surat district also received heavy showers during the day. Bardoli received 3 inches of rains, while Kamrej and Palsana 2 inches each. Mahuva received more than 1.5 inches of rains, Mangrol 11 mm and Umarpada 13 mm, while no rains were recorded in Choryasi and Mandvi talukas.
Many parts of South Gujarat received heavy rains including Tapi, Valsad and Navsari districts.
In Tapi district, Ucchal received maximum with 17 mm of rains and lowest was at Vyara with 5 mm. Songadh recorded 12 mm, Nizar 7 mm, while there were no rains in Valod taluka. Kaprada received the maximum rain in Valsad district with 42 mm, while lowest was in Dharampur with just 5 mm. Valsad recorded 10 mm and Pardi 27 mm. There were no rains in Umargam taluka.
