Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar, along with several other local Congress workers, was detained on Wednesday by the Ghaziabad police after he joined a protest by farmers demanding compensation for losing their land in Mandola village in Loni area of Ghaziabad.
According to the police, Babbar was heading to Mandola village to join the farmers who are on a month long protest. However, he was stopped near Sonia Vihar area and was not allowed to go ahead.
"Despite several requests by the police to not go to the village, Babbar was heading towards the village. So we had to stop him before he reached the village. Babbar staged a protest along with the farmers and they all sat and blocked the roads," said Arvind Maurya, Superintendent Of Police (Rural), Ghaziabad.
Police officials added that despite several requests they didn't clear the roads so they had to take action.
"Babbar was taken into custody along with several Congress workers. He has been detained in a guest house in Vasundhara area and was later released. The administration apprehended law and order problems if he was allowed to continue his rally," Maurya added.
