Rajasthan 2nd largest crude oil producer in country: Governor

Rajasthan has become the second largest crude oil producer in the country after the offshore field Bombay High, Governor Kalyan Singh said in the Assembly today, highlighting the achievements of the state government.

Delivering his speech on the first day of the Budget Session, Singh said oilfields in the state were producing nearly 90 lakh tones oil annually, which is 24 per cent of the total domestic crude oil production.

Soon after the Governor began his address, opposition MLAs tried to disrupt his speech by raising the issues of corruption, unemployment and poor law and order situation.

Despite the interruptions, the Governor continued with his speech and highlighted the achievements of the state government and called upon the members of the House to play constructive roles in the economic, social, cultural and political development of the people.

"The state government has been working for the last few years for increasing happiness index in the state. Positive efforts have been made by the government to link every section of the society with mainstream by providing them the benefits of welfare schemes and through responsible, transparent and sensitive functioning," Singh said.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian economy is taking new dimensions and the country is emerging as "an economic superpower".

Noting that the flagship schemes of the government are proving a boon to make Rajasthan a progressive state, he said the government successfully executed Bhamashah scheme under which 4.92 crore members have been enrolled.

Mukhyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan was launched to address water crisis under which more than 95,000 works in 21,000 villages have been completed in the first phase in order to make them self-reliant in water.

The Governor said 15,278km new roads were constructed and 1,648 villages and 2,633 other habitations have been linked with roads in the last three years.

The Governor's speech also mentioned the decline in child mortality rate and increase in the number of institutional delivery. The child sex ratio in the state was 888 in 2011 which has increased to 939, he said.

Rajasthan was top among states in the construction of toilets under Clean India Mission (Rural) in 2015-16 and 2016-17. As many as 4,432 gram panchayats have been declared open defecation free in the state.

All the gram panchayats in Bikaner, Ajmer, Churu, Jhunjhunu and Pali districts are open defecation free, the Governor said. In urban areas, Dungarpur and Deoli (Tonk) have been declared open defecation free, he said. (MORE)
