State health minister Kalicharan Saraf on Wednesday issued directions to set up a three-member committee under the Divisional Commissioner in all the divisions of the state.

Rajasthan's state health department will soon put in place more stringent measures to check the practice of doctors associated with government medical colleges conducting operations at private hospitals.

State health minister Kalicharan Saraf on Wednesday issued directions to set up a three-member committee under the Divisional Commissioner in all the divisions of the state.

The committee will include a professor-rank doctor, who will be nominated by the principal of respective medical college and two administrative officers deployed at the respective division. The team will operate like a flying squad and conduct surprise inspections at private hospitals.

These directions have been issued in the wake of an uproar after a patient's family in Jaipur alleged that SMS Hospital's Dr GDS Kalra insisted that the patient be admitted in a private hospital for surgery.

Taking an action in the matter, Dr Kalre has been removed from SMS Hospital, a government hospital, and put under Awaiting Posting Order (APO) with immediate effect. The action was taken after a three-member probe committee of Additional Principal of SMS College Dr Deepak Mathur, Pathology department head Dr Ajay Yadav and Dr Prakash Gupta submitted its report after investigating the matter.
