After Jaipur Municipal Corporation's order to play the national anthem and national song at the civic body's head office daily, now government hostels have been asked to recite national anthem daily.
The notice has been issued by the state department for Social Justice and Empowerment (SJE). The national anthem is to be sung along with daily morning prayers at 7 am daily. The directive reportedly came into effect on Sunday, 26 November.
Department’s Director Samit Sharma claimed that residential schools have already been reciting the national anthem and the current order is just an extension of the practice to government-run and government-aided hostels. The department believes that this practice will help kindle the spirit of patriotism in students.
In October, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation made it compulsory for all its employees to sing the national anthem in the morning and Vande Mataram in the evening. City mayor Ashok Lahoty further added that 'those who don't want to sing can go to Pakistan'.
