"He has been remanded in judicial custody till February 8," a senior police official. The 30-year-old Sharma, a graduate from the prestigious National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, has been charged with attempt to murder.

Talwar, 54, was attacked by Sharma with a cleaver causing deep cuts on his face and hands as he came out of the court here after filing a petition before Singh challenging CBI's closure report in the Aarushi-Hemraj twin murder case and demanding a fresh probe.

Talwar, who was first rushed to a nearby hospital, was later shifted to Apollo Hospital in Delhi where doctors have described his condition as stable.

Sources said Sharma told the police that he was upset with the slow progress in the Aarushi case.
