A tight security net has been put in place for the Rath Yatra so much so that each and every cop deployed on duty knows exactly what is expected of him in case of an emergency.
This is what the city police, which has put in place the security aspect of the yatra, claims. The entire Rath Yatra bandobast has been distributed into eight commands, most of which are headed by IGPs.
"Each command is clear about its movement in case of an emergency," Satish Sharma, JCP Sector-I told DNA on the sidelines of a press conference.
He said that the cops have been deployed as per the contingent dynamic security plan.
According to this plan, the police party keeps on changing positions once the yatra passes through a given area.
Sharma further said that such a plan was first introduced in 2002.
Sharma had designed this apparently foolproof plan after the Gujarat riots, when the prospect of violence erupting during the yatra was the highest.
Sharma said that the eight commands are divided into 26 ranges, which are further divided into several areas.
