Ratify UN convention against corruption: BJP to Centre

'We (India) have signed the UN convention against corruption in 2005 but we have still not ratified it five years after. BJP demands that the government should immediately ratify it,' BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

The BJP today demanded that the UPA government immediately ratify the United Nations convention against corruption and enter into a dialogue with the countries where blackmoney has been stashed away to get it back.

"We (India) have signed the UN convention against corruption in 2005 but we have still not ratified it five years after. BJP demands that the government should immediately ratify it," BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He said the government should go whole hog and start dialogue with the countries where blackmoney has been stashed away in tax havens and "get back the money".

Javadekar charged the UPA government with being "not at all interested" in bringing back the blackmoney when foreign governments themselves are "interested to give back the money to the respective countries".

He also alleged that "it's now confirmed that the government is bent upon covering up all the scams".

In the Commonwealth Games scam, only three people were behind the bars but they had come out of jail on bail because no charge sheet was filed by the CBI in time, Javadekar said and termed the inquiry into it as "farce".

On the second generation mobile telephony spectrum allocation scam, he said the CBI had not filed a charge sheet despite investigating it for two years.

Without naming Kapil Sibal, he said the new (telecom) minister attacks the CAG "who calculated the loss to the national exchequer" but does not attack the "guilty" or the "corruption" or the methodology and procedural lapses.

"This is a tacit understanding between the DMK and Congress at a political level that there will be a farcical inquiry and things will be buried sooner rather than later," Javadekar alleged.

Even in Adarsh housing scam, he said, it was high court which passed an order to file a charge sheet.
