Dreaded dacoit Narender Bhatti, 28, alias Ravana, was arrested by Delhi Police late on Sunday night after a shootout on Bishma Pitamah Marg near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, one of the main venues for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
Bhatti was previously jailed for five years for crimes including murder. After his release in June 2009, he was involved in several cases of extortion. He is notorious for being the top gangster of Western UP in recent times.
“Bhatti has scant respect for the law and he exhibited that by shooting at police parties in Dadri when they tried to arrest him,” DCP, South Delhi, HGS Dhaliwal said, adding, “He shot dead Vinod Goel, president of the traders’ association in Dadri, when he spoke against him last week. He is leader of the Ravana gang.”
South Delhi Police got tipped-off that Bhatti was coming to meet relatives in Kotla and laid a trap. He had previously escaped three shootouts with UP Police. The police recovered a US-made 9mm pistol, four cartridges of .9 mm, three of .315 bore pistol and one black pulsar bike from him.
A man was stabbed to death at a police station in Ghaziabad. Pawan Kumar, 30, was about to board a train to Ghaziabad from Modi Nagar, when he was attacked by two men. He rushed towards the nearest police station, but his attackers followed him there and killed him.
