Of the total scheduled caste population of 1.3 crore in Bihar as per 2001 census, Ravidas community accounted for 31.34%.

Bihar government has decided to include the Ravidas community in the list of Mahadalits on the recommendation of State Mahadalit Commission.

The decision was taken at a state cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of the chief minister Nitish Kumar late last evening.

"Ravidas community has been included in the list of Mahadalits on the basis of the third recommendation of the State Mahadalit Commission", state personnel and administrative reforms department's principal secretary, Deepak Kumar told PTI today.

Of the total scheduled caste population of 1.3 crore in Bihar as per 2001 census, Ravidas community accounted for 31.34%.

The state government has already listed 20 of the total 22 scheduled caste communities in the list of Mahadalits on the basis of the recommendation of the commission.

The government has also sought immediate report from the commission on the status of Dusads community, Kumar said.

In an another important decision, the cabinet allowed amendment to the Bihar Right to Information Act (amendment) rules 2009 to make it more effective and prevent its misuse, Kumar said.

The new amendment would facilitate a person to ask for information under RTI act only on one subject at a time.

The state cabinet also gave its consent to form state scheduled tribe and scheduled caste commissions to assess and upgrade their educational, social and economic development, he said.
