The Punjab government had announced that the Rural Skill Development Centres set up across the state during the SAD-BJP tenure would be renamed.

Irked over the Punjab government’s decision to rename her pet project, ‘Nanhi Chhan’, Union Minister Harsimrat Badal took to Twitter to slam the Congress-led government, calling it ‘anti-youth’ and ‘anti-women’.

The Punjab government had announced that the Rural Skill Development Centres set up across the state during the SAD-BJP tenure would be renamed. The centres were named after Nanhi Chhan, not-for-profit organisation run by the Union Minister to save the girl child and preserve the environment.

However, Charanjit Singh Channi, Cabinet Minister for Technical Education and Industrial Training, said the centres will be renamed, taking a dig at the Badal-led government for naming the centres after a private NGO run by the SAD leader. A senior official confirmed that the name ‘Nanhi Chhan’ would be dropped.

In a series of tweets, Badal lashed out at the Congress-led government, calling it “anti-youth and anti-women” for taking the step. “Punjabis expect the new Congress government to deliver on the promises made to the people instead of resorting to such petty steps,” she tweeted.

She added, “I request the Congress government in Punjab to focus on development instead of wasting time on putting down the efforts of the SAD-BJP government.”
