Congress leader Ashwani Kumar on Sunday condemned the attack on Yoga guru Ramdev but said it was "ridiculous" to link the ruling party with the incident, a day after BJP leaders blamed it for the assault.
A man had on Saturday sprinkled black ink on the Yoga guru in the middle of a press conference, and the incident elicited suggestions against the Congress from the opposition.
"It is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that Congress would orchestrate such an event. It is a condemnable incident and is the handiwork of people worried about the upsurge of the Congress in upcoming polls," Kumar said on the sidlines of an event in Delhi.
While Congress leader Digvijay Singh had alleged that there was a "well-orchestrated conspiracy" by RSS behind the ink attack, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held the Congress responsible for the incident.
Asked to comment on the safety of the Mullaperiyar dam, he said experts have explicitly said they had no doubts that the dam was safe.
"I have no doubt all efforts would be taken to ensure its safety," Kumar said.
