An apartment building in Gurugram city's Sector 109 wtinessed a colossal structural failure on Thursday (February 10), after part of the roof of an apartment collapsed. As per initial reports, the roof of an apartment at Chintels Paradiso apartments in Sector 109 gave way, which triggered a collapse on the floors in 5 or 6 other flats below it. Two persons have died and up to 12 persons of four families are said to be trapped under the rubble in the building.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other rescue personnel teams have been rushed to the spot in Gurugram's sector 109. Rescue work is underway. As per Zee News English, 6 of the 17 floors of the building were impacted.
An official statement from Haryana government said that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is personally monitoring the situation. "A portion of the roof of the sixth floor of D tower of Chintels Paradiso housing complex in Gurugram's Sector 109 has collapsed. Administrative officers and NDRF and SDRF teams are on the spot. Rescue operation is underway," Haryana government said in a statement.
Chintels Paradiso said in in a statement, “This is an extremely unfortunate incident and we have taken it very seriously as the safety of our residents is our utmost concern. Upon preliminary investigations, we have come to know that some negligence in repair work done by the contractor in an apartment led to this incident. We are fully cooperating with the authorities and ensuring all support. We extend our heartfelt condolence to the affected families.”
