Minister of State for Home RPN Singh on Tuesday backed his senior party colleague Janardhan Dwivedi's comment that the relationship between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi is unique, saying whatever the UPA has achieved in its tenure is only because of their teamwork.
"There is no need for me to comment on what my senior leader has said. The relationship between the Prime Minister and the UPA chairperson has been a very ideal one during the UPA tenure. And I believe that whatever the UPA has achieved today is because of their teamwork," he told mediapersons here.
Dwivedi, who is the Congress General Secretary, has given indications that Manmohan Singh might be projected as the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, thereby ruling out party's vice president Rahul Gandhi out of the race.
"The relationship that is seen between the Prime Minister and Congress President Sonia Gandhi has never been seen before," he said.
"The relationship between the prime minister and Sonia Gandhi is unique and their camaraderie cannot be replaced easily. We have not seen this sort of duality in any other time and in all probability it is the ideal model for future also," said Dwivedi, while making it clear about the Congress Party's choice for the prime ministerial candidate.
Moreover, Rahul Gandhi, who was elevated to the post of Congress Vice-President, has also ruled himself out of the race for prime minister's post. Gandhi had earlier last month said that he was not interested in becoming the prime minister and wants to focus on his party instead.
