In a major setback to the ruling party, ABVP the student wing from its stables has suffered a major setback in the Rajasthan University students union elections. ABVP lost out in three of the four major posts. Adding salt to the wounds, the winner on the president post, Pawan Yadav, happens to be the rebel from ABVP. This is the second time in a row that an ABVP rebel has won the elections in Rajasthan university.
General secy post was won by Manvendra Bhudania while Mahima Choudhry was declared winner on the vice president post. Both Bhudania and Choudhary are from NSUI, while Manisha Meena of ABVP managed to score a win on the post of joint secretary. The university has a total voting strength of 23662 and merely 12205 had cast their vote in the election that took place on August 28.
Election to various universities across the state had taken place on August 28, however the elections for varsities in Udaipur division had been postponed to September 4 due to Modi’s Udaipur visit on August 29. Counting for all universities had been scheduled to take place on Sept 4, when Udaipur universities went for polls.
