Sadhvi Pragya declares Rs 4 lakh assets; gets FIR for Babri razing remark

Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case currently out on bail, filed her nomination based on what she claimed was an "auspicious time" after arriving at the collectorate.

BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on Monday filed her nomination papers for the Lok Sabha election from Bhopal amid chanting of mantras. She owns assets worth Rs 4 lakh, including a silver-coated brick with 'Ram' engraved on it.

Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case currently out on bail, filed her nomination based on what she claimed was an "auspicious time" after arriving at the collectorate.

According her nomination papers, Pragya has Rs 90,000 in cash and Rs 99,800 in two bank accounts. She owns two silver bowls, four silver glasses, toe rings worth nearly Rs 60,000. The 48-year-old right-wing activist said she would file her papers "formally" on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed the police to register an FIR against Sadhvi Pragya for her remark on the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. She had said she took part in razing the mosque. This came after the Election Officer found her statement in violation of the Model Code of Conduct which is in force during polling.
