The Gujarat University (GU) finally managed to resolve the issue concerning admission of Gujarati-medium students at the Shri Sahajanand Commerce and Arts College on Thursday.
Now, the college will continue its admission process till Monday. However, some fingers have pointed to a newly formed university, for having possibly incited the college.
Parimal Trivedi, vice chancellor of the GU, said, "After three meetings, the college authorities have now agreed to admit Gujarati medium students. The college will continue their admission process till Monday."
He further said, "The college has agreed to the conditions put forth by the university, and now, the Gujarati division will not, under any circumstances, be closed down."
However, sources in the university have pointed to the possibility of an outside institution having incited the ruckus. A highly placed source said, "Nowadays, every college wants to become a self-financed institute. There are chances that a newly-formed university in the city may be instigating college managements to turn the colleges into SFIs."
Sahajanand College authorities were not allowing Gujarati medium students to fill forms for admission to the first year in English medium. The issue worsened as students started opposing the college's decision.
The college's teachers had also alleged that the authorities are planning to close down the college, by means of such decisions.
