On Sunday, the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha performed a mind cleansing ritual called Buddhi Shuddhi, in a bid to knock some sense into writers who’ve returning awards. Reacting the to the incident, Sahitya Akademi award winner Uday Prakash said that the it was the Hindutva outfits which needed cleansing from their homes so that ‘intolerant, violent and criminal tendencies can be kept under control’.

He told a leading daily: “A two-and-a-half-year old girl was brutally raped in Delhi. She was kidnapped as the light suddenly went off when she was watching the Ramlila. The timing, place and occasion throw light on the kind of politics that is happening in the name of religion. Ahead of Durga puja, which is of significance and marks the festival of women power, we hear such stories. In such a scenario, I would advise the Hindutva forces to conduct the Buddhi Shuddhi of their own people."
