Salma Ansari, wife of ex-vice-chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and former Vice President, Hamid Ansari, plans to build a new temple in the Chacha Nehru School and madrasa. The school and madrasa are run by Salma.
According to reports, the madrasa has been set up so that the students would not have to go out to pray.
Speaking to Zee, Salma said, "A temple or a mosque, everything is equal for us. We will have both of them under our roof." She added, "As the students have to go out of the school campus to pray and this is not safe, so we are planning to build a temple inside as well so that they would not have to go out."
She also said that if the students want to establish idols of Lord Ram or others, she doesn't have a problem with that. "Since there is a demand from the kids to keep pictures of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman in the temple, the pictures of these gods will be kept," said Salma.
However, the move was not well-received by a local student leader. Commenting on the move, Arjun Singh Bholu said, "This is a part of appeasement politics. First, they will say that they want to build temples as well as mosques, but after building the mosque, they will not build any temple," adding, "They will just give false assurances of building a temple for the Hindus. They had promised to do similar things in the past but did nothing."
He also said that the likes of Salma, AMU and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen's Asaduddin Owaisi are a part of the Jinnah gang who work keeping a particular agenda in their minds.
