JODHPUR: Bollywood actor Salman Khan appeared before the Rajasthan High Court here on Wednesday as per the court's order while granting him bail in a hunting case.
"Salman Khan presented himself before the high court as was directed by the court in its Aug 31 order suspending the five-year-sentence awarded to him by a lower court," Hastimal Sarswat, counsel for Salman said.
The Bollywood actor, who landed in Jodhpur on Tuesday evening, spent just a few minutes in the court to complete legal formalities.
Salman had filed a revision petition against the District and Session Court's verdict of Aug 24, in which the court had rejected his appeal in the chinkara poaching case.
Justice H R Panwar of the Rajasthan High Court while accepting his revision petition said, "Revision petition involves certain questions of law for determination and, therefore, I consider it just and proper to suspend the substantive sentence of imprisonment awarded to the accused petitioner."
Saraswat said that the hearing of revision petition usually takes 5-6 years.
Salman had spent six nights in central jail from Aug 25 after he surrendered to the Rajasthan Police before his sentence was suspended by the high court.
The actor was sentenced to a five-year jail term by a lower court under the Wildlife Protection Act last April for killing an endangered chinkara deer at the Ghoda farm near Jodhpur on the night of Sep 28, 1998 while filming Sooraj Bharjatya's ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.
