"The BSP chief has always shown scant respect for decency and power seems to have made her even more pompous', SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav said.

Attacking Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on the "cash garland" controversy, the Samajwadi Party today questioned the "reluctance" of the Congress-led government at the Centre to get the matter investigated and bring the BSP supremo to book.

"The BSP chief has always shown scant respect for decency and power seems to have made her even more pompous. The cash garland episode is a shameful and unprecedented thing to have happened in the country," SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav told reporters.

Speaking before leaving for a function at Meja, 50 km from here, Yadav said he was baffled at "the reluctance of UPA government to get the matter investigated and bring Mayawati to book".

"Should we infer that the Congress and the BSP, which inveigh against each other in public, have arrived at some tacit understanding. The Congress must come clean on the issue", he added.
