SC restored the conviction of the man who was acquitted by the high court for raping a minor girl with whom he had a 'romantic affair'.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday set aside the controversial Calcutta High Court judgment, which advised adolescent girls to 'control sexual urges'. SC restored the conviction of the man who was acquitted by the high court for raping a minor girl with whom he had a 'romantic affair'.

Judge AS Oka's bench also provided instructions to the judges on how to draft rulings in matters involving minors. It emphasised that instances involving teenagers will call for more prudence and sensitivity.

The Supreme Court also overturned the Calcutta High Court's decision to acquit a man who was convicted for raping a minor girl, with whom he had a "romantic affair", according to Bar and Bench.

The Supreme Court bench said that an expert committee will determine the man's punishment in the rape case, even as they upheld the conviction.

The Calcutta High Court last year advised teenage girls to manage their sexual cravings and not give in to two minutes of pleasure. This led to the Supreme Court's decision. The High Court's decision to mandate a "duty/obligation-based approach" for teenagers caused a stir.
