In the first major step towards normalcy, schools and other educational institutions reopened in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. According to sources, lower primary classes will also resume function soon, in a phased manner, in Srinagar and Rajouri districts. However, high schools, higher secondary schools and degree colleges will remain closed. Government offices are set to open all over the state.

Schools, colleges and offices were shut for 15 days in the Valley, in the wake of elaborate security arrangements put in place by the Centre following the abrogation of Article 370. All schools were already functioning in Jammu.

Principal Secretary – Planning and Development – Rohit Kansal said that over 190 primary schools would reopen in Srinagar, starting this week.

The process of easing of prohibitory orders started from Saturday with 35 police stations being made functional for some hours. Kansal said no untoward incident was reported from these areas as traffic including public transport plied and shopkeepers opened for business.

Senior IPS officer and advisor to J&K Governor, K Vijay Kumar, told Zee News late last week that the situation in the union territory was returning to normalcy.
