As the Lok Sabha elections results are a few hours from being announced, Congress leader Rashid Alvi in a statement said that all regional secular parties should join hands and elect Mamata Banerjee as their leader. She is, as Alvi suggested secular, competent and honest beyond doubt.

He accepted the fact that it will be difficult for Congress to form a UPA III government but they can always come together to prevent Narendra Modi to come to power.

He also added that Congress will never step back if it has to make a secular government.

Mentioning that the truth will come out tomorrow, he said it is wrong to blame the leadership of Congress for the up's and down's in their term.

Alvi, a former AICC spokesman had also offered earlier to fight from Varanasi against Narendra Modi. He had also blamed Modi in the recent past of getting involved in politics of capturing power instead of following the principles.
