Security forces on high alert along Andhra-Orissa border as 3 cops killed in Maoist encounter

Combing operations have been intensified along the border after some policemen were killed and a pump house and control room in Orissa were blown up.

Security forces remained on high alert and continued combing and frisking operations along the Andhra-Orissa border (AOB), after three security personnel were killed in an encounter with Maoists in Orissa's Gajapati district early today, police sources said.
     
Following killing of some policemen and after Maoists blew up a pump house and control room in Orissa, combing operation was further intensified today in areas along the Andhra-Orissa border, they said.

Additional forces who were deployed in bordering areas of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts to carry out special operations following the two-day bandh call given by CPI (Maoist). The forces continued the combing operations with assistance from central paramilitary forces, they said adding the situation in Andhra Pradesh side was peaceful so far.

"Security forces in Andhra Pradesh were already on high alert for the past two-days, following the bandh call given by CPI (Maoist),"
a senior police officer told PTI over phone from Visakhapatnam.

The Maoists had given a 48-hour shut-down call in seven states, including Andhra Pradesh from Monday, to protest against the 'Operation Green Hunt' launched against them and the recent encounters in which top Maoists-Shakamuri Apparao and Kondal Reddy were shot dead in AP.
