A week ahead of verdict on Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, security today staged flag march in the twin towns of Ayodhya, Faizabad and other places near the disputed site.
"The exercise was carried out to inspire a sense of confidence among the common people and assert that the administration will not allow any breach of law and order," Faizabad senior superintendent of police RKS Rathore said.
Central Reserve Police Force, Provincial Armed Constabulary and Uttar Pradesh police personnel, in full anti-riot gear and totting machine guns, marched through the twin cities of Ayodhya and Faizabad and passed through sensitive areas, including lanes close to the disputed site.
Heavy deployment of forces have been made at the various point in both the cities.
Mounted police, anti-riot vehicles and fire tenders also participated in the exercise, which began late afternoon and concluded in the evening.
