SFI worker stabbed to death inside Maharaja’s college in Ernakulam

A twenty-year-old Chemistry student was killed in campus clashes at Maharaja's College in Ernakulam in Kochi on Sunday.

A twenty-year-old Chemistry student was killed in campus clashes at Maharaja's College in Ernakulam in Kochi on Sunday.

The victim identified as Abhimanyu, a student of B.Sc Environmental Chemistry was a resident of Vatavada in Idukki. He was also a member of Students' Federation of India (SFI) and was allegedly stabbed to death by Campus Front of India workers. 

According to reports, CPI(M)'s student clashed with Campus Front of India members over posters being put up inside college premises for Freshers’ Day.

Another student who was injured in clashes is identified as Arjun, an undergraduate student of Philosophy and SFI member. He is undergoing treatment and his condition is critical.

“At least 15 people were part of the gang, of which only one was a college student,” a police officer said.

Police have detained four people and suspect that a group was called from outside the campus.

Regular classes have been suspended for two days. The governing council of the college will meet soon to discuss the situation, reported The Hindu quoting Principal KN Krishna Kumar.

The SFI has called for a state-wide strike.
