Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar was shown black flags by BJP supporters during an event in Baramati on Friday evening. The supporters claimed that the NCP had deliberately not mentioned the names of the Chief Minister and the guardian minister of Pune in the invitation card for the event.
Baramati is Pawar's hometown and is considered as an NCP's bastion. In the same town, Pawar had hosted senior BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister Arun Jaitley. However, now he had to face the black flags.
Pawar was attending an inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed vegetable market and parking facility in Baramati on Friday evening. The BJP suppporters gathered there and started protesting.
According to the local police, soon after Pawar began his speech, a group of BJP supporters got up and started showing black flags. "There were around 20 to 25 protesters who were immediately evicted from the venue. They were arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and later, released on bail," said Additional Superintendent of Police Sandeep Pakhale.
