Sheena Bora murder case: Why is Peter Mukerjea contradicting himself?

As the story behind the murder of Sheena Bora and arrest of Indrani Mukerjea keeps evolving, statements are being put out not just by the police but also by Indrani’s current husband Peter Mukerjea.

Indrani was accused of Sheena's murder and arrested on Tuesday evening, August 25. Since her arrest, Peter Mukerjea has spoken to numerous media and giving his version of a story that only seems to be getting murkier by the day.

Scrutinising Mukerjea’s statements shows how his version of events seems to be change from one day to the next and from one media to other.

Here are some differing statements that Peter Mukerjea has made so far-

On Sheena

August 26 – "I didn’t know Sheena was Indrani’s daughter"

The day after Indrani's arrest Peter Mukerjea told media that he had no knowledge that Sheena was Indrani's daughter and not her sister.   
 
August 27 - "Sheena told me she was Indrani’s daughter"

Mukerjea told Times Now that Sheena had told him she was Indrani’s daughter and so had his son Rahul. Peter said that when he confronted Indrani with this information, she denied it and told him not to believe it.

On Indrani’s murder charge

August 26 – "I am dumbstruck by this level of criminality..."

Peter Mukerjea told the media that he was shocked at the crime that had been committed. He said, "I am really in a state of complete shock. Not experienced anything like this. The kind of crime that has been committed is not something I would have expected in a million years. I am dumbstruck by this level of criminality..."

Peter also spoke to the Daily O where he said, “I am dealing with it with a great deal of difficulty as it is all very shocking. And quite disgusting really... I really am very hurt that these last two years that this is the kind of story I have been living with. And it may not be true at all. I’m still holding out a little hope that this is all some big mistake.”

August 27 - "I believe her 9.5 out of 10... I would say 10 out of 10 unless proven wrong"

In an interview to Times Now, Mukerjea stated he was completely in shock and dismay at the charges filed against Indrani. He went on to state that he doesn’t know what to believe. He told the channel that he was finding it hard to "digest the information" in reference to the charges against his wife. "The issue at hand is Indrani my wife is currently facing a murder charge. In my relation with my wife, I believe her 9.5 out of 10 ... I would say 10 out of 10 unless proven wrong. She is my wife after all."
