Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Rakesh Siddaramaiah, who died of multi-organ failure at a hospital in Belgium last week, was laid to rest on Monday. Thousands of people filed past the body at Karnataka Exhibition Grounds in Mysuru where it was kept for public viewing.
Governor Vajubhai Vala, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh, BJP state President BS Yeddyurappa, Leader of Opposition Jagadish Shettar and Cabinet colleagues of Siddaramaih paid their last respects.
Siddaramaiah, who stood next to the body of his son, was seen weeping with folded hands as leaders tried to console him after paying their respects. The body was then moved to a farm house in T Katur for last rites where only close family members and friends were allowed. The body earlier in the morning arrived from Brussels at the airport in Mysuru from where it was flown directly to Mysuru.
Rakesh, 39, was undergoing treatment since week ago at Antwerp University Hospital in Brussels where he was rushed on last Tuesday after he developed sudden pancreas related complications during a European tour with his friends. He is survived by wife, a son and daughter.
Rakesh, who was considered as political successor to Siddaramaiah, had met with an accident 15 years ago when he suffered injuries to his pancreas. Siddaramaiah's second son is a Doctor by profession.
