AGARTALA: Six persons were arrested in connection with a string of five blasts that rocked the city killing two people and wounding 100 others on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

Four persons, including one of those seen on a bike at Radhanagar bus stand shortly before the blast there, were arrested on Wednesday night after the explosions, DIG (police control), Nepal Das said.

Two others were arrested late Wednesday night, he said.

A team of National Security Guard from Delhi and a team of forensic experts from Kolkata were at the blast sites at Maharajganj Bazaar, Gobind Ballabh Pant market, Bottala, Radhanagar bus stand and Agartala motorstand, Das said.

While it is yet to be ascertained who were behind the blasts, there was no doubt that a strong network and a lot of planning had gone into it, Das said, adding it was not known if a remote control was used to trigger the blasts.

He said, security has been strengthened in the city and counter insurgency operations stepped up in remote and insurgency-hit areas.
